A businessman in southern France is suing ride-hailing company Uber over his wife's discovery of rides he took to see his lover, his lawyer said. 

프랑스 남부의 회사원이 그가 애인에게 가기 위해 우버를 탔던 것을 아내에게 알개 해 준 우버에 소송을 제기했다고 남자의 변호사가 말했다. 

The man says he once requested an Uber driver from his wife's phone. 

남자는 그의 아내의 폰으로 단 한 번 우버 기사에게 요청한 적 밖에 없다고 말했습니다. 

Despite logging off, the application continued to send notifications to her iPhone afterwards, revealing his travel history and arousing her suspicions. 

로그 오프 했음에도, 앱은 그 뒤로 지속적으로 그녀의 아이폰으로 정보를 보냈고 그의 여행 히스토리가 노출되어 그녀의 의심을 사게 되었다. 

The couple have since divorced. The lawsuit is reportedly worth up to $48m. 

커플은 이혼했다. 소송의 가치는 4800만 달러에 달한다. 

"My client was the victim of a bug in an application." his lawyer David Andre Darmon told AFP news agency after the case was lodged at a court in Grasse.

"The bug has caused him problems in his private life." Mr Darmon added.

The lawyer did not comment on a report in Le Figaro newspaper that the lawsuit was worth up to $48m, saying only that his client wished to remain discreet and anonymous.

Other users has also encountered the Uber software bug, Le Figaro said.

The newspaper carried out its own experiment by logging in and out of Uber on one iPhone and then logging in on another and ordering a driver. The app then sent screen notifications about the order to both phones. 

신문은 아이폰에서 우버의 로그인과 로그아웃을 반복한 뒤 다른 폰에서 로그인해 기사에 주문을 해보는 자체 실험을 해 보았다. 그러자 앱은 두 폰 모두에게 정보를 보내기 시작했다. 

The glitch affected iPhones before a software update in December, the newspaper said. Android phones did not appear to be affected. 

결함은 12월 소프트웨어 업데이트 이전의 아이폰에서만 발견되었다고 신문은 말했다. 안드로이드 폰은 이런 현상이 발견되지 않았다. 

Uber said it would not comment on the case but added that the best possible protection of clients' personal details was a priority. 

우버는 사건에 대해서는 언급하지 않겠다고 하면서도 최고로 가능한 고객 개인정보 보호가 가장 우선이라고 덧붙였다.

세상에 선보이지 못할 뻔 한 보석같은 책들을 BBC에서 소개한다. 

책을 읽는 것은 중요하지만 습관이 들지 않으면 쉽지 않다.

제 2권. Marie by Madeleine Bourdouxhe (1943)

20세기 초 최고의 작가들의 작품들의 메아리로 울린 벨기에 출신 Bourdouxhe의 두 번째 소설 

Another new re-release, Belgium-born Bourdouxhe's second novel reverberates with echoes of the work of some of the best writers of the early 20th Century - Proust, Woolf, Jean Rhys and Marguerite Duras. 

이들 작가들의 팬이라면 당연히 잘 알려지진 않았지만 1930년대를 배경으로 눈에 띄게 현대적인 여성 내면을 잊을 수 없을 정도로 그려 낸 이 소설의 발견이 기쁠 것이다. 

Fans of these writers will be delighted to discover this less well-known but no less haunting portrait of female interiority that's strikingly modern for its 1930's setting. 

그녀의 주인공에 대해 많이 말하진 않았지만, 행복한 결혼을 하고 지적이며, 아름다운 30살의 Marie. 잘생기고 젊은 남자를 만난 이후의 내면의 의식의 변화를 보여준다. 

Bourdouxhe doesn't so much tell the story of her protagonist - happily married, intelligent and beautiful 30-year-old Marie - as show the inner workings of her consciousness following a transformative encounter with a handsome young man among the sand dunes of the Cote d'Azur.

제 3권. The World My Wilderness by Rose Macaulay (1950)

전쟁 이후 런던에 도착한 1946 년, 17살의 Barbary 는 아버지와 새어머니 사이의 일반적인 집안에서 적응하려고 노력했다. 

It is 1946, and newly arrived in London after a war spent running wild with the Maquis in Provence, 17-year-old Barbary struggles to fit in to her father and stepmother's conventional household.

그녀는 공습으로 폐허가 되어 돌무더기로 가득 찬 거리를 돌아다니기 보다는 Macaulay는 그 풍경을 통해 아주 좋은 방법으로 작품을 승화시킨다.

Instead she spends her time exploring the bombed out ruins around St Paul's, a landscape Macaulay conjures up in a most evocative way: and eerie urban wilderness where nature is already starting to overrun the rubble. 

전쟁 직후 기간에 대해 씌여진 최고의 소설

Although currently out of print, The World My Wilderness is not only a highlight of Macaulay's prolific career, it's also one of the best novels written about the immediate post-war-period.

제 4권. To the One I Love the Best by Ludwig Bemelmans (1955)

그의 매혹적인 Madeline 책들로 유명하지만, Bemelmans 는 동일하게 매력적인 회고록인 이 책의 작가이기도 하다.

Famous for his enchanting Madeline books, Bemelmans is also the author of this equally charming memoir (also out of print) recounting his friendship with Lady Mendl, Elsie de Wolfe. 

Wolfe 라는 여성을 만나는데, 전문 내부 인테리어 발명으로 유명하고 가장 재미있는 인물 중 하나로 그려졌다. "그녀는 보석을 지니지 않은 채로 90 파운드가 나가며, 내가 그녀를 만났을 때 그녀 나이 90 이었다." 

시간은 2차 세계 대전으로 안내한다.

Belmelmans meets de Wolfe - the woman credited with the invention of the profession of interior decoration, and one of the most amusing characters ever drawn on the page: "She weighed about ninety pounds without her jewels, and when I met her she was ninety years old" - in Hollywood, but the story of their time together also takes them to Versailles where, in the aftermath of World War Two, de Wolfe's Villa Trianon provides a makeshift home for war orphans.

제 5권. The Blackmailer by Isabel Colegate (1958)

Colegate 의 첫 소설이며, 그녀는 Shooting Party(1980)으로 유명하다. 

Best known for her novel The Shooting Party (1980), a swansong to the Edwardian upper classes before the Great War shattered their idyll, The Blackmailer, Colegate's fiirst novel - currently available from Valancourt Books - more than deserves a mention on this list. 

Muriel Spark 의 약간의 색다른 감성과 아이리스 Murdock 소설의 환경을 조합하였으며, 공갈과 로맨스의 재미있는 이야기라는 생각을 갖게 될 것이다. 

1950년대 런던 배경. 

Combine the slightly offbeat sensibility of Muriel Spark with the milieu of an Iris Murdoch novel and you'll have something of an idea about this witty tale of extortion and romance, all played out against the gin-soaked backdrop of the 1950s London literary scene.

제 6권. The Vet's Daughter by Barbara Comyns (1959)

상당히 과소평가된 소설가 Barbara Comyns 은 20세기로 전환된 시기 런던 남부에 사는 포악한 아버지로부터 공포에 떠는 젊은 Alice Rowlands 의 슬픈 이야기를 다룬다. 

A hugely under-appreciated novelist, Barbara Comyns is at her most bonkers and brilliant best with this strange, sad story set in south London at the turn of the 20th Century, in which young Alice Rowlands is terrorized by her vicious father. 

어느 고딕양식의 대저택에서의 엽기적인 공포와 방해 사건 

When it comes to ghoulish horrors and disturbing incident, Comyns's vision of suburbia rivals any Gothic mansion. 

예를 들어, 전혀 무해한 Clapham Common 이 그러한 폭력적인 결말을 갖는 도시다.

Never, for example, has innocuous Clapham Common been the site of such a violent denouement.

If I had to draw a comparison it would be with the feminist-infused magical realism of Angela Carter, but really Comyns is in a league all of her own.

제 7권. The Glass Pearls by Emeric Pressburger (1966)

비록 많은 독자들이 그의 작품을 Powell 과 Pressburger 중 하나로 익숙해있지만, 20세기 영국 영화관에서 가장 유명한 파트너십은 Pressburger 일 것이다 

 - 헝가리출신 유대인 망명자인 그는 손에 땀을 쥐게 하는 심리적 스릴러인 이 작품을 썼다.

Although many readers will be familiar with his work as one of Powell and Pressburger, the most famous partnership in 20th-Century British cinema, few will be aware that Pressburger - a Hungarian Jewish emigre - also wrote this edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller. 

그의 주인공은 나치 전범이다. 

 - 강제수용소 수감자를 대상으로 한 가학적 실험을 한 의사인데, 20여 년 간을 신분을 속이고 겸손한 피아노 튜너로 런던에서 살아왔다. 

His protagonist is an Nazi war criminal - a doctor who conducted sadistic experiments on concentration camp inmates - who's been on the run for 20 years, living incognito in London as an unassuming piano tuner.

As he ratchets up the tension, Pressburger achives something horrifyingly chilling: he actually has you sympathizing with his anti-hero.

제 8권. Something to Answer For by PH Newby (1968)

이 소설이 유명한 이유는 1969년도에 초대 Booker Prize 로 선정되었기 때문이다.

This novel's original claim to fame was that it won the inaugural Booker Prize in 1969. 

오늘날, 다소 역설적이게도, 46 명의 수상자들 가운데 현재 더 이상 출간되지 않는 유일한 책이라는 오명을 쓰고 있다. 

Today, somewhat ironically, it's notorious for being the only one of the award's 46 winners not currently in print. 

1956년도 이집트의 수에즈 위기를 배경으로

Set in Egypt in 1956 against the backdrop of the Suez Crisis, Newby's scathing and highly comic period piece also delivers a story for stranger than anticipated. 

끔찍하게 머리를 얻어 맞은 뒤 영국 군인인 Townrow 는 최근에 죽은 친구의 재산을 처리하기 위해 포트사이드로 가게 되고, 그리고는 그의 주변에서 전개되는 사건들을 추적하기 위해 분투하는 자신을 발견하게 된다.

After receiving an nasty blow to the head, Townrow, a British soldier come to Port Said to deal with the estate of a recently deceased friend, finds himself struggling to keep up with events unfolding around him.

제 9권. The Long-Winded Lady: Notes from the New Yorker by Maeve Brennan (1969)

아일랜드 출신인 Maeve Brennan 의 소설로, 새 판이 나왔기 때문에 또 하나의 시기적절한 추천이겠다. 짧은 이야기들의 컬렉션인 The Springs of Affection 도 이제 막 재판되었다. 

This is another timely recommendation as a new edition of Irish-born, Maeve Brennan's short story collection The Springs of Affection has just been reprinted by the Bublin-based press Stinging Fly. 

나는 확실히 독자들로 하여금 이 책 역시 찾아보도록 독려할 것이지만, 개인적으로 나는 그녀의 논픽션 소설을 좋아한다. 

I'd definitely urge readers to seek this out too, but personally I have a soft spot for her non-fiction. 

1954년에서 1968년도 사이에 Brennan 은 뉴요커 이야기 란에 'The Long-Winded Lady' 라는 근사한 필명으로 복사본을 보냈다.

Between 1954 and 1968 Brennan supplied copy for the New Yorker's Talk of the Town section under the fabulous pen name 'The Long-Winded Lady'. 

그녀의 거리 노숙에 얽힌 맨하튼 생활 이야기들 

 - 특히 그녀의 말년에 노숙자가 되어 뉴욕시청 여자화장실에서 살았던 가슴아픈 이야기들.

Her vignettes of Manhattan life combine the detachment of the flaneuse with the lived experience of her own street-dwelling subjects - especially poignant given Brennan became homeless towards the end of her life and lived out of the ladies' bathroom at the offices of the New Yorker.

제 10권. All the Devils Are Here by David Seabrook (2002)

나는 최근에 원더풀 블랙리스트 파드캐스트를 통해 이 책 제목을 발견하였다. 

 - 만약 당신이 더 많은 잊혀진 보석을 찾길 원한다면, 나는 확실히 파드캐드트를 구독하길 추천한다. 

I only recently discovered this title, via the wonderful Blacklisted Podcast - if you're looking for more forgotten gems, I'd definitely recommended subscribing. 

회고록 중심의 서사적 사실주의가 최근 몇 년간 인기가 있었지만, Seabrook은 시대를 앞서가서 해변가 마을인 Kent 를 배경으로 시체 천지의 여행을 통해 사람들을 동요시키는 확실하게 소름끼치는 작품을 남겼다. 

Memoir-informed narrative non-fiction has become ever popular in  recent years, but Seabrook is miles ahead of the curve with this decidedly creepy and unsettling corpse-strewn journey through the seaside towns of Kent. 

시간이 흐르면서 발전하는 이야기 형태로, 일화와 미미하게 연관된 멋진 사실들 속에서 진실을 파헤쳐나간다. 페인터이자 부친 살해범인 Richard Dadd 의 이야기로 시작해서 Joseph Losey 의 1963년도 영화 'The Servant' 에서 영감을 얻은 소위 실화로 끝난다. 

A sort of literary beachcomber, digging around in a grubby pool of fact, anecdote and tenuous connection, he begins with the tale of the painter and patricide Richard Dadd and ends with the supposed true story that inspired Joseph Losey's 1963 film The Servant.

이상으로 영국 BBC 기준의 우리가 지금 읽어야 할 잃어버렸던 10권의 책 이었습니다!!!! ㅎ 

BBC 기준이고 영국 중심의 소설들이라 입맛에 맞지 않을 수 있지만, 특별히 선정된 책들인 만큼 읽어보면 나쁘지 않을 것 같아요^^
